A new law will go into effect February 22, 2010 to help protect New Yorkers from deadly carbon monoxide (CO).  At that time, CO alarms must be installed in all new and existing one and two-family dwellings, multifamily dwellings and rentals having a fuel-burning appliance, system or attached garage. Amanda’s Law Summary:

  • CO alarms must be installed in ALL new and existing one and two-family dwellings, multifamily dwellings and rentals having a fuel-burning appliance, system or attached garage.
  • The NFPA recommends CO alarms be installed in a central location outside each sleeping area and on every level of the home.
  • CO alarms must be listed to comply with UL 2034 or CSA 6.19 and installed in accordance to manufacturers instructions.
