Smoke detectors require the test button to be held for for five seconds. Combination alarms (smoke and CO) will respond with a single push.

For DC operated alarms, make sure that any pull-tabs have been pulled so the battery has been activated. Try replacing the battery with a fresh new one. Make sure the battery contacts are facing the correct direction as instructed in your manual.

For AC powered alarms, make sure the electrical connector in the back of the unit is securely attached and power indicators are lit.

If your alarm still does not sound, you should replace it. Smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years. If the unit is approaching the end of its service life, replace it. A date code is stamped on the label attached to the back of the unit.

If the unit is within the warranty period, please call 1-800-880-6788 to speak to a member of our support team.
