While cooking is the leading cause of home fires and injuries, according to the National Fire Protection Association, only an estimated 25 percent of U.S. households have a kitchen fire extinguisher on hand to help contain or extinguish a small fire. To help protect your family when a cooking fire starts, Kidde has introduced the only UL-listed fire extinguisher for use with residential cooking equipment.
A study published by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) found that 75 percent of range or stove fires started with food ignitions, of which nearly half began with cooking oil. Kidde's new kitchen fire extinguisher is the only unit currently listed to the new UL 711A standard that tests the performance of the unit on vegetable and peanut oil.
Kidde's Kitchen Fire Extinguisher has a unique, specially designed nozzle that minimizes the chance of oil splashing by gently dispersing the dry chemical agent in an arc; whereas, a traditional fire extinguisher may cause the oil to splash with its straight stream.

Its non-toxic agent is similar to baking soda, so it won't damage your stove and makes clean up easy.
Plus, the lightweight cylinder allows for one-handed operation, and the easy-to-read pressure gauge tells you the extinguisher is charged and ready for use.

The Underwriter's Laboratories (UL) 711A rating is the most current testing standard for residential cooking equipment, and is the only standard that tests an extinguisher's performance on vegetable and peanut oil. Consumers typically use these types of oils when cooking on the stove. However, because this standard is so new, it does not translate to a traditional A, B, or C rating like other fire extinguishers.
A fire extinguisher tested to put out cooking oil fires safely and effectively in a residential kitchen offers the consumer added peace of mind. That's why Kidde's Kitchen Fire Extinguisher was designed to the 711A rating.
