Kidde Donates Alarms to Triangle Area

Kidde Fire Safety announced that it will again work with ABC11/WTVD, local fire departments and The Home Depot for the 13th annual Operation Save a Life in Raleigh, North Carolina. As part of the event, Kidde donated more than 4,000 smoke alarms with sealed, 10-year batteries and 500 carbon monoxide alarms to Triangle area fire departments. Kidde, a leading manufacturer of residential fire safety products, is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

Every year, thousands of people suffer from life-threatening injuries and deaths in home fires but many of these are preventable with the proper installation of a working smoke alarm. The mission of Operation Save a Life is to reduce fire fatalities in the community through education and smoke alarm assistance. Local fire departments will deliver and install smoke alarms in homes of low income, elderly and other residents at risk in their respective communities. In addition, fire departments will install carbon monoxide alarms in homes located in counties affected by Hurricane Matthew. Other organizations involved in Operation Save a Life include the NC Jaycee Burn Center and Carolina Restoration Services.

“Kidde is a world leader in the fire safety products industry,” said Sharon Cooksey, communications manager, Kidde. “And we recognize that with leadership comes a responsibility to the communities we serve. That’s why we actively give back through charitable programs like Operation Save a Life.”

For the month of October, ABC11 will run an educational campaign that highlights fire and safety information including fire prevention tips, carbon monoxide poisoning signs, installing alarms and fire escape planning how-to.
